Early morning on Friday Oct. 30 a 20-year-old Burbank man was speeding down the 5 freeway in his Ford Fiesta. As he approached the Ventura Freeway he rear-ended a truck. The driver was ejected from his car and died at the scene. The impact of the LA car accident caused the Fiesta to flip multiple times up the roadside embankment. Investigators believe he was not wearing his seat belt even though the car was equipped with five-point racing seat belts.
Officials are currently investigating the accident.
While there is no way of knowing for sure if he would have survived had he been wearing his seatbelt, the reality is that he would not have been ejected from the car greatly improving his chance for survival. Wearing your seatbelt is the number one thing you can do to protect yourself while in a car. It only takes a second to put it on and it may save your life.
