Tracy Morgan along with friends including James McNair were involved in a car accident with a Walmart truck in June of 2014. Mr. McNair was killed in the accident and Mr. Morgan was seriously injured. This week, after much speculation, both aforementioned parties have reached settlements involving this case.
Mr. McNair’s family settled with Walmart for $10 million dollars. The money will be paid to his two children, 26-year-old Jamel and 19-year-old Denita, in monthly payments that will last the rest of their lives. The payments will start at $3,000 per month and will increase over time.
Mr. Morgan suffered broken leg bones, a broken nose, several broken ribs and brain injuries during the accident. He still undergoes regular physical therapy for his injuries and has been seen walking with a cane. He announced today via a statement that he too has settled his lawsuit with Walmart. The amount of the settlement has not been disclosed. Mr. Morgan’s statement read: “Walmart did right by me and my family, and for my associates and their families. I am grateful that the case was resolved amicably.”
Mr. Morgan has not spoken publically since the accident, but that will soon end. He is scheduled to appear Monday, June 1 on the Today show for an interview with Matt Lauer.
